It's more than a Festival...It's a lifestyle.
For four decades the Philadelphia Folk Festival has set the pace for traditional and contemporary folkmusic, establishing an event for tens of thousands of folk music fans - 3 generations of them - to enjoy their music, share their excitement as they discover new talent and old timers with the chops and the tunes that strike all the right chords.

This is the first Philadelphia Folk Festival album to be released in over 22 years and it's only right that it's making its debut just as this internationally renowned Festival celebrates it's 40th year. Also, it's no coincidence that the album was produced by a prominent member of this Festival family, folk radio legend Gene Shay, who produced the 1977 Philadelphia Folk Festival album for Flying Fish and has been MC of the Festival's evening concerts since the very beginning.
4-Hours of Music, plus video footage and a booklet thick with memories
Here on 4 CDs is a look at the many sides of folk music through the eyes of a smiling banjo. A look back to hear Pete Seeger singing ballads at the very first Festival in 1962, a look forward to catch the excitement of Great Big Sea and Nickel Creek pushing that proverbial envelope - with over 4 hours of rare and exceptional performances by Richard Thompson, Nanci Griffith, Mississippi John Hurt and David Bromberg, John Prine, Taj Mahal, Arlo Guthrie and over fifty more great artists. All of these great performances in one special memento!

In one superb anthology, the Philadelphia Folk Festival 40th Anniversary, the mood, the crowd, the joys that are the essence of the Festival are in sync with the music... meant to be shared and savored time and time again.

To complete the package the set includes six videos that add to the strength of this release, giving a variety of glimpses of the Festival, it's attendees and the all-volunteer organization that has made it an essential weekend for thousands of people every year. Plus, the set includes a 58-page book with music notes, artist profiles and history of the Festival in both stories and rare photos.
